چکیده

This paper is concerned with fatigue of polypropylene/glass-®bre thermoplastic composites produced from a bidirectional woven cloth mixture of E glass ®bres and polypropylene ®bres. The latter becomes the matrix after the application of heat and pressure. This composite was manufactured with a ®bre volume fraction Vf of 0.338. The e€ect of layer design on the static and fatigue performance was investigated. The S±N curves, the rise in the temperature of the specimens during the tests and the loss of sti€ness, were obtained and discussed. The loss of sti€ness was related to the rise of temperature and stress release observed in the material. The e€ect of load rate on the static properties was also studied and discussed accordingly. This paper concerns fatigue studies of polypropylene/glass-®bre thermoplastic composites produced from a bi-directional woven cloth of co-mingled E-glass ®bres and polypropylene ®bres with a ®bre volume fraction Vf of 0.338. The e€ect of lay-up design and load conditions on fatigue performance were investigated. The S-N curves, the rise in the temperature of the specimens, and the loss of sti€n...

An Investigation into the Deep Drawing of Fiber-Metal Laminates based on Glass Fiber Reinforced Polypropylene

Abstract   Fiber-metal laminates (FMLs) are new type of composite materials which could improve defects of traditional composites in ductility, formability, impact and damage tolerance. Drawing behavior of a thermoplastic based FML was investigated consisting of glass-fiber reinforced polypropylene composite laminate and aluminum AA1200-O as the core and skin layers, respectively. The effects o...

The effect of temperature and strain rate on the mechanical properties of highly oriented polypropylene tapes and all-polypropylene composites

The creation of highly oriented, co-extruded polypropylene (PP) tapes allows the production of recyclable ‘‘all-polypropylene’’ (allPP) composites, with a large temperature processing window and a high volume fraction of highly oriented PP (>90%). The wholly thermoplastic nature of these ‘self-reinforced’ composites implies that the mechanical performance may vary with temperature. This paper d...

Behaviour of E-glass fibre reinforced vinylester resin composites under impact fatigue

An impact fatigue study has been made for the first time on 63⋅5% glass fibre reinforced vinylester resin notched composites. The study was conducted in a pendulum type repeated impact apparatus especially designed and fabricated for determining single and repeated impact strengths. A well-defined impact fatigue (S–N) behaviour, having a progressive endurance below the threshold single cycle im...

Effect of Adding Nanoclay on the Mechanical Behaviour of Fine-grained Soil Reinforced with Polypropylene Fibers

In this study the performance of clay nano-particles on the soil reinforced with Polypropylene fibers (PP-fiber) has been investigated. Also a series of investigations concerning the effect of random orientation of fibers on the engineering behaviour of soil were conducted. Soil mixtures were modified with varying percentages of nanoclay and Fibers. Unconfined compressive strength (UCS), Compac...
